Crashing (2016) UK TV Series Review

Crashing is about a group of twenty-somethings living together as property guardians in a massive, abandoned hospital. So British lol they’re broke, directionless, emotionally messy, and way too close to each other for comfort.

Basically: chaos with thin walls.

It’s short, fast, awkward in the best way, and painfully funny. Every episode feels like it ends too soon, which somehow makes it even better.

I loved it immediately.

I’ve always loved British comedy since I was young. There’s just something about it, it doesn’t over-explain, it doesn’t spoon-feed jokes, and it’s not afraid to be uncomfortable.

From Skins, to The Inbetweeners, Chewing Gum, Fresh Meat, An Idiot Abroad, and Misfits. All wildly different shows, but they share the same DNA. I just love it.

They’re honest. Messy. A little cringe. Very human.

Crashing fits perfectly into that lineup.

The characters are ridiculous but believable. Everyone is slightly insufferable in a way that feels real. There’s sexual tension, emotional immaturity, bad decisions, and that specific British ability to say something devastating while pretending it’s a joke.

Nothing is polished. No one is aspirational. And that’s the charm.

It feels like watching people figure themselves out in real time, without any dramatic music telling you how to feel about it.

I will forever be annoyed that Crashing only got one season.

It had so much potential. So many unfinished dynamics. So many directions it could’ve gone. Instead, it just… ends. Right when you’re fully invested.

But honestly, that might be why it sticks.

It feels like real life that way. Short, unfinished, and gone before you’re ready.

It’s a recommended watch for me. It’s hilarious, awkward, chaotic, and oddly comforting if you love British comedy that doesn’t try too hard.

If you’re into shows where people are flawed, broke, emotionally confused, and trying their best in weird living situations, this one’s a gem.

And I’ll always have a soft spot for British shows that let characters be a little unlikable and very real.
